Meet Jill

A life unscripted. Stories about beginning again.

I’m Jill Shelton, author of Life in Bloom and creator of the Charlie’s Next Chapters series.

For the past 15 years, I’ve lived a largely unscripted life, internationally house and pet sitting, walking ancient Caminos and following curiosity around Australia and the world.

I write contemporary women’s fiction for women navigating change, rediscovering themselves and wondering what might come next.

A Life in Motion

I’ve never been interested in simply passing through a place.

House and pet sitting has allowed me to settle into communities, live in local homes and experience the everyday rhythms that travellers often miss. I’ve shopped in neighbourhood markets, cared for much-loved animals and woken to the sounds of towns and villages far from anything familiar.

Walking the Caminos of France, Spain, Switzerland and Italy taught me a different kind of travel. When life is reduced to the rhythm of your footsteps, there is time to think, notice and listen.

The road has taught me that reinvention rarely arrives according to plan.

Sometimes it begins with curiosity. Sometimes with an invitation. Sometimes it is forced upon us by a loss we never saw coming. But change always asks something of us: will we exhaust ourselves trying to preserve what was, or find the courage to grow into what comes next?

How Charlie Began

The seeds of Charlie’s Next Chapters were planted somewhere within that life of movement, uncertainty and discovery.

Charlie was inspired not by one person or one event, but by a lifetime of conversations, unexpected detours and fresh starts. She carries the questions so many women face when a familiar identity no longer fits:

  • Who am I when the roles that defined me begin to change?
  • What have I quietly forgotten about myself?
  • And is it too late to create a life that feels genuinely my own?

Through Charlie, I explore life reinvention, friendship, motherhood, marriage, grief, creative awakening and the quiet courage required to begin again.

Because the end of one chapter may be the stunning first line of the next.

One Life. Many Chapters.
